Nearby Activities
Priest Lake is a large, clear, deep water lake, 19 miles long, 4 miles wide, with 72 miles of shoreline, 7 islands to explore and numerous sandy beaches. Located at an elevation of 2500 feet, Priest Lake is surrounded by the Selkirk Mountains and is famous for its beauty, tranquility, and incredible wildlife. North of the lake is Upper Priest Lake, a 3.5 mile long protected scenic area and south of the lake is Priest River with class III rapids, ideal for kayaking. Together these waterways offer superb water sports. The fishing on the lakes and river, and in the many streams feeding the lakes, is excellent. There are hundreds of miles of trails for hiking, biking, and horseback riding. A groomed hiking system is maintained on the federal lands surrounding Priest Lake, in addition to the many trails and back roads that are ‘natural’. The golf course was recently expanded to 18 holes and is both beautiful and challenging. Priest Lake is also famous for its huckleberries and 450+ species of wild mushrooms, as well as the bears, wolves, cougars, elk, moose, deer, osprey and many other animals and birds. It is a haven for nature. In the winter months, Priest Lake becomes one of the best snowmobiling destinations in the US, with more than 400 miles of groomed trails. In addition, the golf course becomes a groomed cross country skiing trail system. All of the summer trails become snowshoe and skiing trails in the winter months. Dog sledding is also increasingly popular. With 523,000 acres of state and federal lands surrounding Priest Lake, there is a nearly unlimited number of places to enjoy the quiet, beauty and wildlife of Priest Lake. Along with the natural beauty of the area, the lake also boasts award winning restaurants, as well as cafes with simpler local fare. Many of these restaurants are available by boat as well as by car.
