Apartment GUFO - family apartment
Description
Our holiday domicile FONTANA CALDA is situated at the bottom of SAN CALOGERO mountain, which is very famous all over the world due to its natural vapour bath grottoes, good for rheumatism and neuralgia therapy. Our estate is about 4 km from the town centre of SCIACCA and also from the sea, situated in a rural and very peaceful idyll of about 50,000 square meters in the middle of a grove of olive trees. Our oldest olive tree has about 2000 years!!
In our large villa, we live in the ground floor: my husband Massimo, Sicilian (a very simpatico one), our son David, 1/3 German + 2/3 Sicilian (that's what he says) and last but non least me, Doris, German (who is living here in Sicily for more than 10 years). Part of our family is also Rubbia, our lovely dog and our cats Chip & Chop.
The four new (June 2004), nice and cosy apartments are situated on the first floor (mansard). All units are fully equipped with SAT-TV, Hi-Fi, fridge, toaster, heating, air condition, standing fans, linen and towels weekly change, our Olive Oil extra vergine during your stay, garden furniture (sunshade, chairs, table, storm lantern, candels), clotheshorse etc. All our guests can use the washing machine, the iron and ironing board, and our internet to check or send emails (+ wireless Internet access). Happy to announce that our apartments now has Wifi, so bring your own laptop and surf the internet at top-speed.
Free parking.
Arrival can be any day of the week. Minimum stay is one night.
What we love about this place
Why not trying Sciacca and surroundings for your holidays? It is the perfect base to discover the whole Western part of Sicily. Sciacca is a quiet and not too big town directly at the sea (South coast), very “Sicilian” (more than Ragusa or Taormina), food is amazing (fresh fish directly from the port), the archaeological sites like Agrigento, Selinunte, Segesta, Trapani, Mazzara and several islands are reachable in half day or one day tours and you can connect nearly each sightseeing with a beach visit. Palermo is far 90 km and easily to reach also by bus, the connections are good directly to the centre (station) and look around by walking if you don’t like to drive in the town, because the traffic in the Palermo centre is really chaotic. You surely should see Palermo, it is beautiful and very interesting, but I prefer to turn back in the quieter situation that Sciacca offers.
The Rocco Forte Collection is currently building a €129 million hotel and golf resort on the southern coast of Sicily in a small village called Verdura, near Sciacca, about an hour's drive from the international airport in Palermo and 30 kilometres from Agrigento and the Temple Valley.

Other Amenities
Sciacca is an ancient thermal locality and a well-known seaside resort, placed on the south-western coast of Sicily, 60 Km away on the northern side of Agrigento. Its origins trace back to the VI century B.C. when Sciacca was an either an outpost and a thermal resort of the Greek colony of Selinunte. First destroyed by the Carthaginians in 409 B.C. and soon re-founded by the Romans, Sciacca became an authentic commercial power under the Arab rule and was later fortified by the Normans. The locality looks like a marvellous terrace by the sea with its particular Arabian style fishermen quarter and its variegated tourist and fishing harbour. Along its town-centre streets tourists have the chance to admire interesting monuments or buy, in the several shops, local handicraft ware (ceramics, corals, Tunbridge woods). Particularly worth visiting are: the Castello dei Luna (Castle of the Luna family); the baroque Duomo; the pretty Catalan-gothic style Steripinto mansion. Besides it is wortth attending the Carnival of Sciacca which is one of the most important happenings all over Sicily, of course. An oddity: the evanesced island. In July 1831 a volcanic island emerged from the seawaters in front of Sciacca. A great deal of amazement and discussions followed and after several disputes the island was christened "Ferdinandea" in order to honour the Hispanic sovereign. But just 5 months later the island disappeared.
